Growth Mindset
Ephrata Area School District continues to encourage a mindset of growth and consistent desire to develop and improve. District administrators began to initiate the concept of embodying a growth mindset with staff and students approximately two years ago. Students and staff, Districtwide, have posed the question “What Are You Becoming?” and used the Twitter hashtag, #BecomingEASD, to help instill a desire to constantly grow and become an even better version of themselves.
The District Staff Opening in August 2016 featured a guest speaker to further enhance this initiative. “We really wanted to start the 2016-2017 school year with a renewal of the work we have done on having a growth mindset,” said Dr. Brian Troop, District Superintendent. Eduardo Briceño, co-founder and CEO of Mindset Works, provided a seminar and resources for District staff to develop growth mindset beliefs and learning competencies and inspire staff to thrive as perpetual learners in education and in life. “Mr. Briceño reminded us of the importance of maintaining and promoting a growth mindset and gave us tips on how to make our classroom environments fertile soil for students to grow,” Dr. Troop continued.
A growth mindset is evident throughout the District in many ways. Students are setting individual short-term and long-term goals, inspirational growth mindset statements are displayed throughout the buildings, encouraging “can do” statements are being practiced by students and staff, and much more.
“These efforts have set the stage for Ephrata Area School District to have a school year filled with positive interactions and the ability to unlock potential in every classroom throughout the District,” concluded Troop.
